How to Stop Being an Over-Thinker

Are you the type of person who analyzes every little thing until you get tired? Does everything seem so complicated that you make an obsession from looking for your best choice instead of acting? Do you sometimes dramatize a minor situation and transform a tiny issue into a major problem? If you recognize yourself in a scene like this means that you are an Over-Thinker. You may be a casual one and experience such behavior from time to time or maybe you do this almost all the times and you are a chronic Over-Thinker. Maybe it is not only your fault for acting like this, but you should know that too much analysis, paralysis and you may get to auto-sabotage yourself many times. You should start adopting a more relaxed attitude towards you and others. There are some tips to help you to quit over-thinking right now:

  1. Stop being a perfectionist. There is no perfection in the world and we are made to constantly improve ourselves. It is great to be ambitious, to have big goals, but don’t wait for the perfect time or the perfect conditions to start something, because you may wait in vain. Instead of this start your projects and work on your positive change in order to be able to achieve step by step what you have in your mind.
  2. Don’t suppose anything. Don’t act according to your suppositions, take into considerations the facts. There are fewer chances to be wrong if you don’t make up stories that are only in your mind.
  3. Be active and practical. Get into the practical, instead of spending your time in creating theories. Make a little step to get closer to your goal every day. Even if you are scared or especially if you are scared, move on and don’t remain stuck in inactivity.
  4. Make a habit from asking yourself productive questions. Focus on solution solving questions, which will put you mentally in a positive light. Don’t run from problems, acknowledge them and take the most practical decision.
  5. Share your thoughts with someone who may be your mentor. A good friend, a close relative, a coach or anybody else you trust may be your mentor when you are confused about something. Just make sure that this person may provide you an objective point of view and will tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.
  6. 6. Make yourself a plan and respect it. If you want to escape from mediocrity and reach higher levels, create a plan and totally commit to it. Don’t negotiate with yourself and don’t abandon your established rules if you want to succeed.
  7. Don’t find excuses for what you are not doing. Be honest with yourself even if you are wrong. Try to improve things instead of justifying what you’re not realizing.
  8. Keep a Diary for Success. Writing your thoughts will put you on the right perspective. You will be able to conceptualize your decisions and remain focused and motivated. It will also help you to find out what strategy suits you.
  9. Get out of your thoughts. This is a concept from Eckhart Tolle, who talks about finding that quiet space beyond our thoughts. Sometimes we have to clear our mind in order to regain the power to start over. It’s about abandoning “the cerebral” and making space for “the creative”, the spiritual, the non-thinker.
